Tour Itinerary
 
Day 1: Sheikh Hussein Border – Amman Tour – Amman Hotel
10:00 our driver meets you outside the checkpoint gate at the Jordanian side of the Sheikh Hussein Border. Drive 2.5 hours to Jordan’s capital Amman, where we visit the Citadel with remains from the Roman to the early Islamic period. Then we have a look at the small Archaeological Museum. Not far away we find the Roman Theatre, the markets (Souq) and Jabal Amman with Rainbow Street. Overnight at Toledo Hotel or similar for the 3* category, at Al Qasr Metropole Hotel or similar for the 4* category, at Intercontinental or similar for the 5* category.
 
Day 2: Amman Hotel – Madaba – Mt Nebo – King’s Way – Kerak Castle – Petra Hotel
Check out from hotel and drive to Mt. Nebo, believed to be the burial site of Prophet Moses. If the weather allows you will have like him a view of the Promised Land. In the remains of the Moses Memorial Church, constructed in the 4th century, you see beautiful mosaics. Short ride to the town of Madaba, known for its Byzantine and Umayyad mosaic art. Certainly you see the popular 6th century map of Palestine in the Greek Orthodox St. George’s Church. If open, visit to the St John’s the Baptist Church to climb the bell tower. Afterward we drive along the famous ancient biblical caravan route, the King's Way. We have a short stop in Wadi Al-Mujib, a great wide valley with magnificent geological formation. After the visit of the Crusader castle in Kerak continue to Petra hotel. Overnight at Town Season Hotel or similar for the 3* category, at Sella Hotel or similar for the 4* category, at Marriott or similar for the 5* category.

Day 3: Petra visit – Petra Hotel
Today visit the highlight of Jordan, the red rose city Petra! The Nabateans settled here more than 2,000 years ago, making it an important junction for the spice and silk routes. You are able to start as early as 06:00, but early birds, don’t forget to ask the hotel for a breakfast box the day before. Meet your local guide and pass the narrow canyon, the so called Siq, with its colourful sandstone. At the end you will be rewarded with a view of the most beautiful monument: the Treasury. Continue via the Street of Facades to the Royal Tombs and Pharaoh's Castle. After around 2 hours the guide says farewell to you at the restaurant area. You have free time to explore Petra on your own, for instance climb the 800 stairs to see the massive Monastery El Deir. Return to the main gate. Overnight in Petra.

Day 4: Petra Hotel – Wadi Rum 3 hours jeep ride – Amman Hotel
Morning time we drive 1.5 hours southwards to the protected area of Wadi Rum. Embark a 4x4 and with your Bedouin driver uncover more of the vast desert. The rugged scenery, the changing colours of sands and mountains, the serene atmosphere will make you understand why Wadi Rum is one of the most impressing desert landscapes in the world. The setting had been used for Hollywood movies. You see canyons, red sand dunes, Thamudic and Nabatean rock inscriptions and a natural rock bridge formed over centuries. Proceed 4 hours to Amman, check in your hotel. Overnight at Toledo Hotel or similar for the 3* category, at Al Qasr Metropole Hotel or similar for the 4* category, at Intercontinental or similar for the 5* category.

Day 5: Amman Hotel – Jerash – Sheikh Hussein Border
Check out from hotel, we head one hour to Jerash, the best example of a Roman provincial city in the whole Middle East. The well preserved ruins had been hidden for centuries in sand, before the excavations started in 1925. Wander along the spectacular Forum, paved and colonnaded streets, the Nymphaeum, theatres and the Temple of Artemis. Proceed to Sheikh Hussein Border to depart Jordan.

Practical Info
  • For entry visa regularities see our blog Visa and Passport Requirements.
  • The Sheikh Hussein Border is open from Sun to Thu, 07:00-20:30, Fri and Sat from 08:30 to 18:30. The crossing is closed on Yom Kippur and Islamic New Year.
  • The departure tax on the Israeli side is about 32 $USD per person, at the Jordanian side 10 JD (about 14 $USD per person). The shuttle bus between the border terminals charges 1.7 JD per person.
  • Check in time at hotels is 14:00, check out time at hotels is 12:00 noon.
  • To respect the local culture please cover shoulders and knees. 
  • Wear comfortable walking shoes and pack sun protection. 
  • 4x4s in Wadi Rum are old vehicles (no A/C, no seat belt) and belong to the local Bedouin association.
  • Tour guides in Jerash and Petra are licensed by Ministry of Tourism and are not part of our team.
  • A 700 meters horse ride from the main gate to the beginning of the Siq is included in the admission fee Petra. Horse handler expects a tip of 3 JD per horse. Horse drawn carriage, camel or donkey ride can be booked for certain distances and paid on spot.
  • We are not responsible for the procedures at the border. 
  • Our staff is trained to follow hygiene and safety protocols.

Booking this tour though BookingJordan was the best decision for me and my friend as we only had 5 days and wanted to make the most out of our trip on a budget. We mostly did day trips to from north to south of Jordan. The itinerary was planned really well and though the day was packed with activities, we had the evenings to ourselves to relax. The best part of our trip was our guide/driver/brother Mohammad Najjar! He is so energetic, positive and very informative. He was also very patient with us when we asked him to take us on a long detour near Mt. Nebo to find a hidden spring and then in Jerash as we got a little carsick and had to take our tour of the Roman ruins really slowly. He showed great local places to eat and bought us so much kanafeh and baklava that we were stuffed! He is also friends with almost everyone in all the sites so we got a lot of special treatment!
