Day 1 (Sun): Tbilisi Hotel – Nokalakevi – Overnight Mestia
Pick up from the lobby of your hotel in Tbilisi to start your long journey to Svaneti. On our way we will make couple of stops like at the Rikoti Pass and near the Enguri Dam. In Nokalakevi we visit the archaeological site, where to see remains of an ancient fortress at the Tekhuri River and The Forty Martyrs Church. Some believe it is also the location of Aia, the capital of the Kingdom of Colchis, from where Jason and the Argonauts stole the Golden Fleece. In the evening we arrive to Mestia, the main cntre of Upper Svaneti, located 1,500 meters above sea level. We stay at a local guesthouse like Ushba or similar and enjoy homemade dinner.

Day 2 (Mon): Mestia Hotel – Chalaadi Glacier Trek (5-6 hours, 1920 meters) – Overnight Mestia
Today awaits you and easy to moderate trek of around 6 km to the Chalaadi Glacier. We depart the center of Mestia and cross a small hanging bridge on the river of Mestiachala. After we reach the ruins of an old hut, the trail continues through various types of landscapes, the birch forest and rocky valley covered with stones of different shapes. Mount Chatini is clearly visible from this valley, while on its south face the Chalaadi glacier takes shape. We continue towards the Chatini Mountain and finally at 1920m above the sea level we reach Chalaadi glacier. In a few words, the trail is quite an easy walk with many views of the high mountains and snowy peaks of the Greater Caucasus range. From Chalaadi we walk back to Mestia.

Alternative Jeep Tour from Mestia to Ushguli. If you prefer an off-road adventure instead of trekking, you have the option to drive to Ushguli. Ushguli is 45 km away from Mestia and consists of medieval settlements with its svan towers. It is one of the highest continually inhabited places in Europe. After visiting Lamaria Church in Ushguli, we walk towards the foothills of Shkhara glacier (5068 m), the highest summit in Georgia. In the evening we drive back to Mestia. Driving distance 94 km. Supplement 100 Euro per jeep for maximum 5 persons.
Day 3 (Tue): Mestia Visit – Overnight Mestia
We will head to the tower-museum of Margiani, located in a Svaneti house, to see how the locals were living in medieval times. We will also pay a visit to mineral sparkling spring, Seti Square and the Svaneti Museum of History and Ethnography. The museum’s collection includes ethnographic and archaeological materials, old Georgian manuscripts, Georgian Orthodox icons painted in the Svan style. Mestia is an administrative center of Svaneti region and surrounded by the three major summits: Ushba North Summit (4690 m), Ushba South Summit (4710 m) and Tetnuldi (4858 m). Villages around Mestia, like Latali, Lenjeri and Mulakhi, keep traditional lifestyle. There are 78 medieval churches and defensive towers decorated with medieval frescos in the area. Overnight in Mestia.

Day 4 (Wed): Mestia Hotel – Zugdidi – Tbilisi
After breakfast at the guesthouse check out, say farewell to the Caucasus Mountains to start our return trip to the capital Tbilisi. On our way we will stop at Zugdidi, the administrative center of the Samegrelo region. Visit the Dadiani Palace, built in the 19th century, now a Historical and Architectural Museum. One of the highlights is Napoleon’s death mask. The palace once served as the residence of the Mingrelian family. We stroll also the Zugdidi farmer’s market, where local fruit, vegetables, homemade cheese (Sulguni) and sweets are sold. Evening arrival in Tbilisi, where our service ends at your booked hotel.
