When it comes to dessert, the more, the better and the merrier, we have put together several famous Middle Eastern sweets also known as Arabic sweets or desserts on this post for you to have an idea and to crave for it :)

Baklava

The Baklava

Baklava or Baklawa is a pastry made of multiple layers of paper-thin dough with ground nuts as a filling, baked and then drenched in the syrup of honey and sometimes rosewater. The crunchy and like velvet layers of baklava is the perfect mixture of your particular treat time. This yummy pastry is known worldwide and best served with Turkish coffee.

Knafeh

The Knafeh

Also spelled Kanafeh, Kanafah, Kunafeh or Kunafah is an Arabic cheese pastry drenched in sweet sugar based syrup. Kanafeh main ingredients are sugar, cheese, pistachio, rose water and kaymak or the traditional clotted cream.         

Maamoul

 The Maamoul

Also spelled as Ma’amoul are small pastries filled with dates, walnuts or pistachios. Maamoul is made on special occasions like Eid al Adha and Eid Al Fiter. This Arabic dessert is a soft cookie dough packed with dates that are perfumed with cardamom and cinnamon.

Umm Ali

Also spelled as Om Ali is a dessert combining the creaminess of a bread pudding and cinnamon nut stuffing of baklava (baklawa). Umm Ali is made of milk, sugar, butter, cream, raisins, crushed hazelnuts, split almond, ground cinnamon and shredded dry coconut.  

Muhallabia

The Muhallabia Dessert

Also known as Muhallebi, Malabi, Mahallebi or Mahallepi, this Middle Eastern dessert is milk based, clotted with rice flour or a cornstarch and then topped with sweet syrup. Best served garnished with chopped walnuts or pistachios.

Barazek

This sweet pastry is made of flour, butter, sugar, baking powder, eggs, Acacia or Arabic gum, sesame seeds and pistachios. Barazek is famous in Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Palestine and usually served with Turkish coffee or a hot tea.
